Bring the Magic Home with a Trip to the Big Top

There's something wonderfully nostalgic about Dumbo. From the colorful circus tents and lively carnival atmosphere to the heartwarming story of believing in yourself, it's a Disney classic that reminds us that sometimes our greatest strengths are the very things that make us different.

Roll up to the big top...It's movie night!

Why We Chose Dumbo

Disney's Dumbo may be one of Disney's shortest animated films, but its message has stood the test of time. It's a story about kindness, courage, friendship, and discovering that confidence often comes from believing in yourself.

The vintage circus setting also made this one especially fun to design. Bright reds and whites, carnival snacks, striped decorations, and popcorn-inspired desserts created a movie night that felt both whimsical and nostalgic.

What's on the Menu?

Every family can customize their menu, but here's what we served for our trip to the circus.

Big Top Corn Dogs

No carnival is complete without corn dogs! We made vegetarian corn dogs using Loma Linda Big Franks, creating a classic fair favorite that fit perfectly with our circus theme.

Fresh-Squeezed Lemonade

Refreshing homemade lemonade made with fresh lemons and served with mint created the perfect drink to enjoy under the big top.

Popcorn Wagon Cupcakes

These quickly became our favorite part of the menu.

Vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and marshmallows, decorated to look like fluffy popcorn. Simple to make, but so much fun to display!

The best part?

You don't have to recreate our menu exactly. Add your family's favorite carnival foods, serve movie theater popcorn, or include a favorite dessert.

The goal isn't perfection—it's creating memories together.

Setting the Scene

This may have been one of our favorite tablescapes yet.

We decorated with red-and-white circus stripes, popcorn boxes, Brittney's Dumbo-themed Mickey ears, black sparkles and vintage carnival touches to create the feel of a concession stand beneath the big top.

Even simple decorations can completely transform movie night.

  • A striped table runner...

  • Popcorn buckets...

  • Bright paper straws...

  • A few circus-inspired decorations...

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest memories.

Behind the Scenes

Not every cupcake looked like popcorn on the first try.

There were marshmallows scattered across the counter, lots of experimenting with decorating ideas, and more than a few laughs as we figured out the best way to make everything come together.

Those behind-the-scenes moments are quickly becoming one of our favorite parts of creating these Movie Menus. It's not just about the finished table...it's about spending time together, trying something new, and making memories while creating something magical. There may have been hedge trimmers involved when we realized our corn dog

skewers were too long to allow for a good fry.

Keep the Magic Going

Before pressing play, try asking a few conversation questions like:

  • If you could perform one act in the circus, what would it be?

  • What is something that makes you unique?

  • If you could teach Dumbo one new trick, what would it be?

  • Which Disney animal would you want as your best friend?

  • If you could fly anywhere in the world, where would you go first?

Sometimes these conversations become the most memorable part of the evening.

Make It Your Own

There isn't a "right" way to host a Movie Menu night.

Here are a few ideas to add even more magic:

  • Wear circus colors or Disney shirts.

  • Play classic carnival music while preparing dinner.

  • Fill bowls with popcorn for snacking during the movie.

  • Let each family member pretend they're part of the circus.

  • Have everyone share one thing they're proud of before the movie begins.

  • End the evening with your favorite Disney dessert or another round of popcorn.

Remember...

The goal isn't to create a Pinterest-perfect evening.

The goal is creating memories.
