Bring the Magic Home with a Movie Night Under the Sea
Some of our favorite Disney memories were made inside the parks but some of our favorite family memories happened much closer to home.
Our goal is simple: help families transform an ordinary movie night into an unforgettable experience. Each Movie Menu pairs a beloved Disney film with themed food, decorations, games, conversation starters, and printable activities that make the night feel extra special.

Why We Chose The Little Mermaid
It's hard to imagine a better movie to kick off this series.
The Little Mermaid is colorful, adventurous, funny, and filled with unforgettable music. The underwater world inspired bright decorations, ocean-inspired foods, and plenty of opportunities to get creative.
Whether you've loved Ariel since you were a child or you're introducing her to a new generation, this movie has a way of bringing everyone together.
And let's be honest...
If "Under the Sea" doesn't make you want to dance around your kitchen while cooking dinner, we're not sure what will.
What's on the Menu?
Every family can customize their menu, but here's what we served for our under-the-sea dinner.
Shell Pasta
Our main course featured shell-shaped pasta, making it feel like something Ariel herself might have collected from the ocean floor. It's simple, delicious, and perfectly fits the theme.
Coral Reef Vegetables
Bright vegetables added pops of color to the table while resembling a colorful coral reef. It's an easy way to add something fresh to the meal without sacrificing the fun.
Breadsticks
A puff-pastry breadstick with butter and garlic, with a few shaped like tridents for King Tritan.
An Ocean-Inspired Drink
A tropical drink instantly transformed an ordinary beverage into something worthy of an under-the-sea celebration. Garnishes, fun straws, or colorful cups make it even more magical.
A Sweet Treats
No Disney celebration is complete without dessert! We finished the evening with a themed sweet treat that brought the whole menu together.
The best part?
You don't have to recreate our menu exactly. Use what your family loves. The goal isn't perfection—it's creating a memorable evening together.
Setting the Scene
One of our favorite parts of creating Movie Menus is decorating the table.
For The Little Mermaid, we used ocean-inspired colors, seashell accents, shimmering decorations, and little details that helped transport us beneath the waves.
You don't need an elaborate setup to make movie night feel special.
A blue tablecloth...
A few candles...
Printable menus...
Maybe a couple of seashells collected from vacation...
Sometimes it's the smallest touches that make an ordinary evening feel magical.
Behind the Scenes
If you've watched our video, you probably noticed that everything looked pretty polished by the end.
What you didn't see were the moments in between.
The recipe adjustments.
Moving decorations around twenty different times.
Trying to decide if something looked "under the sea" enough.
Laughing when things didn't go according to plan.
Filming these Movie Menus has already become one of our favorite Pixie Pals projects because it combines so many things we love—Disney, creativity, food, family, and making memories. Our hope is that every Movie Menu inspires someone else to gather around the table with the people they love.
Keep the Magic Going
The movie doesn't have to be the only event of the evening.
Before pressing play, try asking a few conversation questions like:
Which Disney character would you most like to be friends with?
Would you rather live under the sea or in a castle?
If you could have one Disney sidekick, who would you choose?
What's your favorite song from The Little Mermaid?
If you found a treasure chest underwater, what would you hope was inside?
These simple conversations often become our favorite part of the night.

There isn't a "right" way to host a Movie Menu night.
Some ideas to make it even more magical:
Wear Disney shirts or princess dresses.
Play the movie soundtrack while cooking.
Decorate cookies together before the movie.
Eat by candlelight.
Let each family member choose a favorite character to "be" for the evening.
End the night with karaoke and sing your favorite songs from the movie.
The goal isn't to create a Pinterest-perfect evening. The goal is creating memories.
